Help Eliminate Hunger Archives

Helping Others to Help Themselves

There is a section at the top of the Creative Waves Blog that is devoted to helping others to help themselves. I have updated it a bit and yes it could use a bit more work.  I invite you to take a look at it now, Help Others.  One of the ways to help others is to loan funds to Kiva. Of course when I get paid back enough funds to make $25 I just lend it back to someone again.  This adds up over time.  I have not made that many loans so far, about 8 or 9.  One I did twice to someone they did not count for some reason. Perhaps it has to be to a different person to qualify.

It may be a small way to help others but if enough people do this we can make a difference in people’s lives.  Since this is not an outright gift and the people must pay it back and pay some costs, it is also gives them some satisfaction rather than just taking a handout.  More of a hand up rather than a handout. Anyway that is how I feel about it.

Go Here Now to give a $25 Kiva Microloan for only $15.  You will have to act fast as it is almost “sold out”.

The helping others section will give you many free ways to help others also, free rice and feed the hungry etc. Come back often and click away to help others.

I wanted to make a post here as I have not done so for quite awhile.  A friend recently asked about that as they keep checking back and were surprised I had not updated the blog.  Well yes, I have been lax with that. Still I thought no one was reading it.  Well that may be true to some extent.  Obviously not completely.  ;)

Going to add a few pictures that I took and hope to add more soon. This is my sage bush which I have brightened up a bit and I call it Sage Brite.  Not to be confused with stage fright.  Sages do not get stage fright. They just are doing what sage bushes do or be as the case may be. Ok there is a sprig of rosemary in there also I must confess.

Sage Brite

This will give you and idea of what it looks like undressed, naked in the snow. Well I will show you the rosemary version and save the naked sage for another day perhaps just to “spice” it up a bit.  Rosemary is good with chicken and I find sage good with almost anything.

Ok, that is a chilly wrap for now. Who says it does not snow in Victoria, BC?  Ok well it is mostly all gone now, just the odd patch of snow here and there. Mostly green around here year round.

Some years ago the idea of bare naked ladies would conjure up a different image for me.  That image, of course, changed when I heard The Bare Naked Ladies perform or saw them in a video.  Seeing them perform is one thing but the other side of that image, not so much!

Still it was a novelty and they have had some good tunes.  I still recall the song “If I Had A Million Dollars” and I would buy a K-car.   A reliant automobile.  Really?  And of course eat Kraft dinner.  See Wikipedia for more info on the group. Canadian, eh.  Well just happens to be.

So what got me going on this today?  Well, I received an email update from Kiva.  See Help Others at the top of this blog for more info on Kiva.  I recently made a loan to a Kiva member, Mavis Asare, if you are wondering why no payments have been made, well it is too early for that.  I am not worried, they will come and I will lend the funds over and over.  I plan on adding to it soon.

Ok, back to the reason this subject came up, in the email I received was a link to a YouTube video and it was a take on a Bare Naked Ladies song.  In this case, If I had $25 (The Kiva Song). So without further adieu, here is the video:

Hey I Love This Take On “If I Had A Million Dollars”

It’s a hit!  Also it is about helping others to help themselves.

I have posted a bunch of my photos at Me2Everyone so join and view them there if you wish.  If you have photos you can upload them for free and post them there for your friends and family to see. You do not need your own website or to use some other social network.

Here is an example of another picture posted there, from July 1, 2009 Canada Day.

Enjoy your day.

I am now adding this as a permanent page in the Help Others link at the top of the blog.

  • There is a link at the top of this blog that I set up, originally on the Easy Ways Blog, to Help Others.  One of the ways is through a donation to Kiva.
  • I had a bit of a challenge in doing the loan thing but have figured it out now with help from them.
  • My own page is here.  My KIVA lenders page.  You can follow my “loans” there.  Over time I will be making more.
  • Basically you are making no interest loans to help others who will pay you back over 6 months to a year and then you can relend the funds or take it back. You are lending funds to the working poor so they can help themselves and their families. I will just keep  relending  the funds.
  • To view the complete page. Please Go Here Now Kiva Helping Others Help Themselves.

This can be a life changing event for someone.

Thank you,

Gene
