Katie Melua Encore

In the previous post presented here Katie Melua was introduced.  Not that she needs an introduction although it seems she is not as well know to folks on this side of the pond. Of course, this can change in a hurry.

Just Like Heaven is also appropriate to describe her singing and performance. Words are never enough so best to view and listen to it here: Katie Melua Just Like Heaven

Some think the following video is a bit strange in a weird sort of way.  Perhaps it is and certainly it is creative, so appropriate to present it here on creative waves blog. I suggest looking beyond the “strangeness” if that is what you think.  Katie Melua I Cried For You.

Ok, I have a dilemma. I wanted to present another video but have several in mind but only wish to have three presented at one time.

Here is one with the end of the world in mind. Katie Melua, If The Lights Go Out. Beauty! ;)

Well I am not so much concerned with that but I do like the singing of this young woman.

If you feel the same about Katie Melua please feel free to leave a comment.

Happy Father’s Day to all the fathers out there, to everyone who has ever had a father, to give thanks even if it is one half of the equation for your being here today.

Sing on!

A Very Talent Singer, Katie Melua

Normally I would like to present Canadian artists here.  However, I came across this artist by chance, if there is such a thing, while looking for a song on Youtube, Blowing in the Wind, Joan Baez and Bob Dylan.

Here is a bit from Wikipedia about Katie Melua:

Ketevan “Katie” Melua (Georgian: ??????? “????” ????? About this sound listen (help·info), English pronunciation: /?m?lu?.?/ ; born 16 September 1984) is a Georgian-British singer, songwriter and musician. She moved to Northern Ireland at the age of eight and then to England at fourteen.[2] Melua is signed to the small Dramatico record label, under the management of composer Mike Batt,[3] and made her musical debut in 2003. In 2006, she was the United Kingdom’s bestselling female artist[4] and Europe’s highest selling European female artist.[5]

Ok so there is a Canadian connection, although I have not tracked it down yet.

Melua speaks Georgian, Russian and English fluently and is partly of Canadian[19] and Russian ancestry.[

So that makes this a Canadian story, albeit a rather distant one.  I was amazed at Katie’s version of Blowing In The Wind.  It is very good and she imparts and conveys a ton of meaning into the song. This young woman is a beautiful and amazing talent.

After viewing and listening to that song I just had to check out some of her other songs.  Words cannot adequately describe the magic of this music.

Here is The Closest Thing To Crazy by Katie Melua:

Well there are other popular ones, still I kind of like this one. It is called Thank You Stars.

A very special soul with an awesome voice.

Going to come back again with some more of Katie, perhaps on another day soon.

Best wishes to all and thank you Katie Melua.

Happy Canada Day July 1, 2009

canadian-flag It is a beautiful day here in Victoria, BC Canada.  Canada is officially 142 years young today.

Lots of celebrations going on all across the nation.  Wishing all the Canucks a Happy Canada Day.

Celebration brings up the subject of music for me. Music transcends the mundane and uplifts us.   Canada has a history of producing some great musicians, poets, writers, performers etc.  I will post a few later on.  Just a sampling as there are too many to list.

In our capital city of Ottawa, Sarah McLachlan is performing today.  Here in Victoria one of the performers is Pacifika from Vancouver featuring a Peruvian born singer I first heard on CBCradio2.

It is impossible to  pick and choose the best one with such a rich list of artists with the likes of Neil Young, Anne Murray, Leonard Cohen, Burton Cummings, Randy Bachman, Céline Dion, Shania Twain and so on.  There are many newer artists up and coming and who have arrived on the scene. Some move on to the USA and other countries and many choose to remain “Canadian” maintaining their connection with the country of Canada.

As a nation we are generally tolerant and takes things in stride and rarely shout about this great land of ours.  It is a natural beauty.

I like to view the natural settings we have, when I take time to do so, such as a recent photo I took.

Scene From Swan Lake, Victoria, BC Canada

I will leave you with one of Canada’s finest, Gordon Lightfoot singing about one of the greatest historical achievements in Canada. It is hard to imagine the difficulty in building the railroad across the varied and rough terrain.  I am sure many died along the way so people could travel across the country coast to coast.

Enjoy your day, wherever you may be.

Cheers,

Gene

Happy Birthday Honey

Happy Birthday Honey Yes it is a birthday today for Norah Jones, she is 29 years young. Honorable mention goes out to Vincent van Gogh.

I suspect that Norah is in better condition at this stage of life and time. Another famous person’s birthday is Celine Dion. But for today I am going with Norah. It is my blog and I decide.

Never mind Warren Beatty, of Bonnie and Clyde fame, fans. That is it. Over and out, finito. Why Norah, well I just love her voice and energy. She is not bad looking either. No I am not switching away from God.

God does not care really, having much more important things to do. I could say God does not care like many humans but I won’t go that far! Who knows what and God is not about to tell us. Besides Vincent and Norah would make a fine portrait together, would they not? That would certainly would make for some interesting sights sounds and scenes.

Ok, I am getting some vibes. I went out yesterday with my trusty Fuji camera, the one I just point and shoot at things.

Some things do not co-operate like the guy who was trying to get up into the air and fly over the cliff and over the sea on this para-sail thing or whatever. It was like watching a bird trying to get off the ground and was a week too early out of the nest.

Insert Picture Here Bud, Ok I says to myself. Yes You can click on it and it will become bigger!

Now that was getting back to the portrait. I saw two sweet ladies doing some artistic painting and decided to take a picture of one who was painting the sea. She said it was ok. Whew!

I missed the guy downtown, I would have liked to get a shot of him. He has a big sign about God and Satan. I thought it may have been a message for Lydia. But I did go back downtown but he had disappeared by then. Hmm. Disappeared. Who do I know who does that so well? Got to think on that one. DO.

I heard Norah Jones on the cbcradio2 station I listen to. Just trying to find Twitter but it is not coming up for me. Wonder what the connection between twits and twitter is? Does anyone know? Is is like the geeks and Geekers? Oops, no sooner then I had wrote that me Twitter page loaded.

Must have been a sign from you know who or whom! I will let Norah sing us out for today. Enjoy!

Cheers,

Do You Know This Person?

Just a short post today.  Does anyone know this person?  From what I hear, she does disappear for periods of time.   Thankfully, she does come back. Well she used to anyway. Actually this post was started likely over a month ago and sat in pending mode for so long.

Clues:

  • Rumor has it she may write a blog or two.
  • She is not from New York but I understand from sources that she has been known to visit there on occasion.   Perhaps she did reside there at one time
  • New York New York
  • Insert Picture Here.  That is a note to myself.  What a clue?  Cute!

  • Of course she can sing. I did not know she knew that language. Wow. Talented eh!

She also changes so you can never tell her, one day brunette, the next day blonde.  Talented. She sings here also, Wow What An Angel!.

She and Edgar. Who knew?

cheers,

I had intended to post something else today but decided not to.  I will save that for another time.

A short while ago I picked up a passport application thinking I may need one this year to visit someone.  For some reason I just let it sit on my desk.   This past week it was made quite clear to me that reason for the passport was not going to happen.  So life goes as disappointment shows its ugly head again.  Well there will be those who appear in our lives and then throw us curves, walls and barriers I do suppose.  So is life.

I suggested a radio station to a friend to listen to in the morning in case they wanted to visit this fine country of ours and become accustomed to the music world as it is different here.  I am quite sure that suggestion was not taken in earnest.  In any case that is how life sometimes unfolds.

Anyway, I was listening to this station, CBC radio2 usually with Tom Allen in the morning and sometimes Rich Stirfry in the afternoon.  Actually his name is Rich Terfy as I was hearing things again or possible hungry for Chinese food.  They have a contest running for a trip to New York to see Leonard Cohen in concert at the Radio City Music Hall on May 16th.  That would work out for me as right now it is too busy at work but by then things should ease off a bit.  I thought perhaps taking an extended leave at that time may be in the offing.  I won’t discount that now of course, and leave it up to the gods of music and good fortune.

If interested you may also enter the contest.  The station can be listened to on the internet, CBC Radio2. Just joking do not enter. ;) I want that trip. Hurry the contest ends March 22, 2009.

So going to keep this short today/tonight and let Leonard play us out with his Dance To The End of Love.  I guess we have all been there.  Well at least he has some juicy creative waves for the world and especially for the ladies. Music for the soul.  Spiritual music for sure.

Don’t Be So Mean Jelly Bean

OK, I am back.  Do not ask why or why I have waited this long to make another post.  Well no one is reading this blog so I am sure it does not matter!

I am going to post this with the featured song dedicated to someone, Don’t Be So Mean Jelly Bean.  You know who you are.  ;)

Sending you my love, anyway!

P.S Yes this is a joke, it is all about perception If you thought this was about you, why? It is never about you, it is always about me, me myself and I and it mirrors back to us and all that good stuff. !

It is also going out to anyone who may be alive. You may also know who you are, especially, if you are truly alive.

Justin Rutledge is a singer and  songwriter who happens to be from Canada. One of many good young talents.   Check him out on Wikipedia if you are interested in knowing more. OK, he was born in Toronto, still we forgive him. ;)

  • Listen to the emote-ion in his voice and the awesome lyrics.  Something special, I believe.

Awesome. Did I say that?

I also like his song, Alberta Breeze, maybe I will post the video another day.

Music in any language can transcend the daily grind.  It is really heart centered and can resonate with the heart and soul.  It is also personal so what is meaningful to one may not be to another.

Certain things can enhance our experience while listening to music.  Time, place and who you are with, sometimes brings more meaning to the experience as well.  Yes I know it can go the other way, I know it well, so I tend to listen to that which I find more uplifting.   I can only take so much of “old” songs.   There are lots of good artists out there.

Yes it can be highly spiritual or not.   It is a joyful experience to many of us.

Anyway I hope you will enjoy this.  One or two of you perhaps.

Cheers,
