Spiritual Archives

Once in awhile I get feedback at times about how something I have said or presented which has been inspiring to someone. The payoff for that is not monetary and sure the ego is involved.  In this sense the ego is a good thing. As long as I don’t let it get out of hand that part of the ego can serve me well. It does not happen that often so it really is not difficult to keep the ego in check!

People do feel good if they are able to help someone else, not in an enabling kind of way, just by being, planting a seed or two, providing an idea or a way for someone to have something make a difference to them.

There are many inspirational things being presented online. I imagine many do not know about them or where to find them.  Sometimes things just come to us, drop into our laps or hit us over the head to wake us up when we need it. We may be thinking about something, looking for something and the message or the messenger suddenly appears with what we have been asking for.

Being open to all possibility can bring synchronicities, coincidences and the like to us seemingly out of nowhere.  Or what I sometimes like to refer as nothing.  No Thing.  That brings to mind.  “Where does creativity really come from?” This is not an easy question to answer.  I’ll touch a bit more on this later.

I have been listening to some of the talks and such on TED.  See the link I’ve added on the left hand side of this blog. There are some remarkable and inspirational talks and music presented there.  I knew of TED before and had not been there for some time.  Something recently pointed me in that direction once again.  I think it was when I was exploring something about Stephen Hawking and his quest about life and the theory of how the Universe came about.  In any case it is all about synchronicity, coincidence and such.

Back to the TED site.  One amazing talk that really stood out for me is:

Steve Jobs: How to live before you die

Many of us have heard idea and concept “do what you love and the money will follow” or something similar. The first part of that phrase is the important part and the second part is just a bonus should it come.

This talk by Steve Jobs can be viewed on YouTube.

I was really moved by this talk and what it meant.  It is so powerful and evokes emotions as well as bringing awareness to things we do not really know before hand and discover the significance later on.  Sometimes what we feel are the most adverse and difficult things, out of that can come our finest moments.  It we accept and allow them to happen.  That is not an easy thing to do.  We can easily become stuck in our creations and in the muck that we find ourselves in.

If encourage you to explore the TED site and find some gems of your own over there.  It is well worth the trip, IMO.

I will be back later to talk a bit more about creativity and such. I could add more now but I feel this is is powerful enough on its own to let it sift and simmer within us.

May your creations be many and serve you well.

Talking to God and Love Is All There Is

Sometimes I talk to God and sometimes God answers quickly, sometimes it seems like it takes forever or not at all.  Well I recently asked for something and it came quite quickly.  Thank you, thank you, thank you!

What was it you may ask?  Sure you may ask. The answer is not important for the purposes of this post. That is my story and I am sticking to it. I have had things manifest in the past almost instantly so it is possible, very possible.

That is one reason I say to remain open to all possibility. You may also want to keep your fingers and toes crossed but I warn you that can result in permanent injury if you do that for too long, that also goes for holding your breath.

Fast forward backwards to near the end of last month I checked my horoscope, which I rarely do and this is what it said:

If you’re feeling somewhat pessimistic when it comes to love, you shouldn’t be — things are just about to change. However, if you want to take advantage of these great new opportunities, you need to toss out all the junk that’s been cluttering your heart (and mind). Stop obsessing about the past! Everything that happened was meant to bring you to this moment, with your open and giving heart intact.

Hot damn that looks mighty fine I thought.  Calm down please.  Moving right along again you really never know when the goods will arrive.  It is all a timing thing.  The Universe will deliver.  Time and space mean nothing to the Universe.  No-Thing. Notta. Well No-Thing does not really mean notta but it seemed to fit here so in it goes.

Of course they are also talking about the monkey-mind and clutter too. OMG. Do not go near the clutter, I mutter, and sometimes shudder!

Perhaps I really should have checked with my non-resident psychic friend in Kelowna on this. Then again, she is overworked and underpaid so perhaps not to push the envelope.  Her words, not mine. I think she is doing fine.

Speaking of Kelowna, yes I was and still am.  I have another dear girl friend there who has had some challenges. Hey don’t we all at times.

She graciously put me up while I attended my daughter’s wedding there in 2006.  I recently put her onto the book Practicing The Power of Now, well there is a link somewhere on the right hand side of the blog I believe.

Practicing the Power of Now: Essential Teachings, Meditations, and Exercises from The Power of Now

Oh I think that is it, above.  I tried to do it before but it did not work.

in any case, I’ve talked to a few people of late about the book.  Well worth the read, it was for me and helped me immensely.  Quite the transformational book.

Ok, back to the series on relationships or at least the mention of them, of which I stress I am not an expert. Not everyone is for everyone but I do believe there is someone for everyone.  The trick is to find them and, yes, God can be called on to perform that miracle, and believe me it sometimes does take a miracle for many of us.

What is he rambling on about now you may ask? Well, I am not back to the Give Me Sympathy post! Let us move forward, please.  Thank you.  Hmm. That reminds me of Pacifika and the video I posted last July. I cannot find it here.  Where did it go? Darn, that is a pain when things go away like that.

Now getting back to the love is all there is theme, one of the early feelings about that subject was provided by The Beatles and the song If I Fell:

For me this is very simple, yet quite profound as were quite a few of their songs.  Yes and I am still pissed over John Lennon’s untimely death.

Ok, as long as we are talking about God, Love, Death, Life, Spirituality and good looks, I must present you with one of the better looking non-persons with attitude I ran into recently.

Without further ado then I present you with this handsome dude.  Unfortunately he is better looking than his mate.  Just don’t let on that you know that though.  ;)

Handsome Dude Ain't I Honey

Ok folks that is it for today. I got a few more pics but will save them for another day. Even more of that quacky quacked up dude.  Keep those comments of gratitude coming.  Ok, I will go first again. I am grateful for the Sun that came out again today, in between the drops of rain.

Have yourself a loving, peaceful, prosperous and healthy day.

Dance Me to the End of Love, for the Ladies

There are likely a few ladies out there who have danced to the “end of love” with Leonard Cohen.  Like Willy Nelson and Julio Iglesias in sentimentality at least with their song To All The Girls I’ve Loved Before, Cohen has had his share of ladies.  But I am not here to talk about Willy and Julio.  Not not Bill “Willy” Clinton! I tend to like to feature Canadian artists as much as possible.

On a recent CBC television interview Cohen says he has not regrets about the ladies and for not having had a one long term partner.  He also talked about depression in the interview.  I do find some of his music melancholy and while I like some of his music I tend to favor upbeat music most of the time.  Cohen started out as a poet, writer, comedian in his early days in Montreal.  Perhaps he was funny back then.   He does a lot of concerts and travels quite a bit.

For the most part Canadians are a tolerant lot and most usually disregard things such as race, religion and philosophy.  That is one of the great features for living in Canada.  The minorities are working at being close to a majority in the general population of Canada.  Most people can speak any language in Canada and people do not mind.  We tend to honor that in people and respect their heritage.  It is mainly about respect and tolerance. Most do not see it as a threat at all.

Somehow Dance Me To The End Of Love fits with that also even though music tends helps to transcend the human condition and rise above so much of the pettiness, violence and the like.   Cohen is Jewish and we do not care.  So here is that video and song:

Another song I liked from a long time ago was Suzanne. (hot) But that is for another day and time.  The wannabe poet in me resonates with that and others.

Also a recent contest in Canada had a number of Cohen songs on it and the version of Cohen’s Hallelujah was done by KD Lang.  Cohen had also said in the interview previously mentioned this version by Lang touched him. Here is her version of Hallelujah:

That is a beautiful version, for sure.  I hope you enjoyed these two great Canadian artists, . We do have a few of them,Canadian songwriters and singers, in Canada and around the globe.  Wink wink.  I’ll see if I can find a few more for you another day.

Cheers,

Gene

Sure there may be monsters lurking up the pathways of life and perhaps even Mt Doug as we have seen.  Fakers will be exposed so be careful where you tread.  I managed to tread carefully as best as could be and travel on and not retreat, although this makes for a nice retreat.  I am glad I did.

The essence of life and spirit is everywhere. This is a great way to meditate, sit awhile or a walking meditation. Ha, even Lydia could meditate up here!

So along the pathways I kept wandering and meandering up and over and around and I did discover more treasures not all of the wooden kind.  Scenic treasure of lush green and colorful abundance.

Trees around here some of which are many hundreds of years old.  Here is an old tree giving life to a new one.  The new tree is growing and feeding on the old decaying moss covered tree remains.

Little One Growing On Old One That Bit The Dust or Moss as the case may be

This stuff growing on the trees is called someone’s beard or something.  Old man’s beard I suppose.  When it dries it is really neat and you can make it into craft material and such.  It goes grey or white when dry.

Old Man's Beard, Well still Young at the moment so Young Man's Beard it is.

There are some humungous trees around here and a real northern rain forest type of environment.  So it is very nice to view.  Look up way up!

Take a Deep Breath and Look Up Way Up

Springtime is special with all the new growth coming through and the regeneration.  Old gives way to youth eventually and so are reborn and renewed.

New fresh green growth bursts forth in the spring time

Ok, so those are a few more of the delights I found in the forest to balance the monsters and to provide contrast, nourishment for the soul.  I do like to discover and rediscover the hidden treasures of the wooden and earthy kind.  Mother Earth you are so wonderful.

What lies beneath the surface can be quite interesting.  On the recent trek to Cordova Bay I happened to see a small stream rushing towards the ocean. So I decided to take a few pictures and see how they would turn out.

Rushing Water

Rushing Water over rock beneath

DSCF0639

I was not sure how the photos would turn out since the water was rushing quite rapidly over the surface. Now these are not waves but some interesting ripples were in abundance and did create an interesting view and scene.  Nature sure does have some awesome treasures.  Treasure of the land and sea.

These can provide some balance for the other things that are all around the sea shore some nasty some nice but all are as they are or as they be.

I have a few more to share when I have a moment.

Calm, Serene, Cordova Bay Victoria, BC

Before I get into the Cordova Bay scene, I want to say sorry to Lydia as I missed her reference to the 4:20 post I made.  I went back and checked my links and of course I incorrectly linked it to Michelle Obama’s organic garden. Hmm. Not sure what that is all about.  I am sure she is not growing the “weed” in it.  Still you never know. ;)   Should be clear now what 4:20 is.

In any case I visited Codova Bay which we loosely say is in Victoria, BC as we do with many things in this area.  It is actually in Saanich, BC.  No matter, so am I some of the time.  Hey my spell check does not recognize Saanich and wants to change it to satanic.  Hey it is not that baaaaaaaaaad around here.  It is quite pleasant actually.

I took a bus trip close to there and walked a few kilometers or so to the beach and took my Fuji point and click camera.  It does all the work for me so I tend to not take the credit (or debit) for it.  Looking at it on the map it is about 8.1KM from me, as the car flies,  so I must have walked nearly twice that far as I went up Mt. Doug (Mount Douglas) after traversing the beach at fairly low tide.  It has plenty of interesting, and some disgusting things around.  Mt Doug is a real hike, I went up the back way and will have a few pics from there to post later.  You can see the sea all around from every direction except up island to the north.  Fantastic view.

One of the interesting spectacles was a tree that appears to be leaning out to sea almost as if it is beckoning to go there or perhaps to become the bow of a ship headed out to sea.  In any case here it is, so you be the judge.

Cordova Bay, Victoria, BC

I will post another shot.  How this tree manages to say up, is anyone’s guess.  What do you think?

Wow, How Does This Tree Stay Up It is Defying the Laws of Gravity!

I think maybe the “ancients” were visiting here at one time, well I am sure they were, and planted these rocks in this pattern for some reason.

Perhaps The Ancients Came To Visit and Planted These Rocks

Well, to me, these are all spiritual things and have good energy, calm, peaceful, serene.   It looks and smells great near the ocean.  Even before I got to the ocean I could smell it.  Just feel the energy in these pictures if you will.  Can you?

Ok, enough already.  Perhaps I will make a pictorial video out of the excursion, perhaps not.

Got to get something done today.

Enjoy your day or night wherever you may be.

You Are Out of Your Mind

Out of head, out of mind.

Well if you are not out of your head, you should be.  That’s meditation-ally speaking, of course.  Many people, head people usually, have a tough time meditating. They may deny it, being in the ego state and in a perpetual state of the monkey mind with all its chatter clatter.

Yes, I have known some. It takes effort to meditate (not),  rather no-effort.  If you see it as effort, it will be, and it will be more difficult.  I know I have been there and it is a more of a letting go.

The mind, the ego, does not want to let go of anything or anyone.  Focusing on doing more of what you do not want, will get you more of the same of that do not want.  Just be and let go.  Some say it is to commune with God, universe,  source or whatever you wish to call that.

Speaking of serenity, and I do sometimes, speak of and to, serenity.  But this is not referring to a person in this case.  Here is a quote I received today.

“Meditation is returning to the source.

The inner source is serenity.

If you don’t realize the source within yourself, you are lost in confusion and sorrow.

Dharma

www.deeshan. com “

It is not really speaking, thinking or any of that stuff.

Make sense?  Perhaps but when we try to make sense of things we sometimes lose the real meaning, trying to analyze things to death.  That keeps us in the head and not being in touch with who we really are.  Close your eyes, turn off the gadgets, noise, feel it, breathe it, allow it to flow, center yourself first.

I am not really going to give a mediation lesson here,  Wayne Dyer and many others have methods.  Google it.  Or better yet, Scroogle It.  Scroogle your Google.  Go with whatever feels right or try several of the methods, but do not get hung up on the methodology or you will stay stuck in your head.  That is not where you want to be as you will not truly experience meditation in that space. You can also meditate on an object such as a picture, or a peaceful scene. Here is one I took recently that captures a peaceful moment for me.

Happy Birthday Honey

Happy Birthday Honey Yes it is a birthday today for Norah Jones, she is 29 years young. Honorable mention goes out to Vincent van Gogh.

I suspect that Norah is in better condition at this stage of life and time. Another famous person’s birthday is Celine Dion. But for today I am going with Norah. It is my blog and I decide.

Never mind Warren Beatty, of Bonnie and Clyde fame, fans. That is it. Over and out, finito. Why Norah, well I just love her voice and energy. She is not bad looking either. No I am not switching away from God.

God does not care really, having much more important things to do. I could say God does not care like many humans but I won’t go that far! Who knows what and God is not about to tell us. Besides Vincent and Norah would make a fine portrait together, would they not? That would certainly would make for some interesting sights sounds and scenes.

Ok, I am getting some vibes. I went out yesterday with my trusty Fuji camera, the one I just point and shoot at things.

Some things do not co-operate like the guy who was trying to get up into the air and fly over the cliff and over the sea on this para-sail thing or whatever. It was like watching a bird trying to get off the ground and was a week too early out of the nest.

Insert Picture Here Bud, Ok I says to myself. Yes You can click on it and it will become bigger!

Now that was getting back to the portrait. I saw two sweet ladies doing some artistic painting and decided to take a picture of one who was painting the sea. She said it was ok. Whew!

I missed the guy downtown, I would have liked to get a shot of him. He has a big sign about God and Satan. I thought it may have been a message for Lydia. But I did go back downtown but he had disappeared by then. Hmm. Disappeared. Who do I know who does that so well? Got to think on that one. DO.

I heard Norah Jones on the cbcradio2 station I listen to. Just trying to find Twitter but it is not coming up for me. Wonder what the connection between twits and twitter is? Does anyone know? Is is like the geeks and Geekers? Oops, no sooner then I had wrote that me Twitter page loaded.

Must have been a sign from you know who or whom! I will let Norah sing us out for today. Enjoy!

Is Stealing Bibles a Crime?

Just a quick note here today on a very serious crime.  Stealing bibles.  Why is this coming up for me right now?  Well I happened on a site today that got me to thinking about this serious topic.

There is another blogger whom I will not name (Lydia or a reasonable reincarnation thereof) , who, whom, reportedly stole a bible while on vacation and was very likely in a semi-delirious and unconscious state of being or wanta be doing somethings.

She may have been viewing the gorgeous locals at the time and felt the stirring within and had a subconscious urge to find the spiritual, divine inner strength to quell them.   Had to be, an unconscious state of being though, who in a state of awareness would steal the holy bible?  hmmmmm.  Very interesting do you not think?  If you do not think, what do you do?

Is Stealing Bibles A Real Crime?

Well some say they are put in the hotels by missionaries and that if they are stolen it is because the person is in need of it.  Some suspect there is actually money possibly stuffed in the pages for “safekeeping”.

But dear bible stealers, thieves etc. beware the lawmakers can and do get involved.  They relentlessly pursue these criminals.   So best repent now or do the time for the crime.

Does thou not believeth me?  Well, it is true.  Actually the bible is the most popular book that is stolen.  Check this Random FAQ.

Thinking about nabbing that bible from your friendly Spring Glen Synagogue? 5 have been charged over there.  Wow.  That may make you reconsider the wicked deed.  Oh shame, shame, shame.

How about those poor Tennessee churches that have their hands full with bible thieves?  At least 5 churches have been hit.  Blount County Baptists are horrified and a man has been arrested there for stealing bibles from Maryville churches.

Yet some people think it is a game to play.  Here is one such documentation of a collection of hotel bibles being stolen.

I wonder how much jail time the churches are recommending?  Or are they going to forgive him?

Repent you sinners.

Just having a little fun here with this.  It seems a bit silly but hey some consider it a big crime.   Sure it is a challenge and an annoyance to these churches. But come on eh! I hope those religious blogger pontificators do not come after moi now!

P.S. Do not kill me please, ls or js, before or after church.

I wonder what Jesus would say, or what would Buddha would do or be?  What would Wayne Dyer say and would he consult with the gurus? Hey, John Lennon, what do you say?  Let it Be?

Ok folks, it is a nice sunny day here in Victoria.  A lovely day.  No need for me to go out stealing those holy books today.  Is there?

Happy Sunday.  Happy Day.  Enjoy!

cheers,

I had intended to post something else today but decided not to.  I will save that for another time.

A short while ago I picked up a passport application thinking I may need one this year to visit someone.  For some reason I just let it sit on my desk.   This past week it was made quite clear to me that reason for the passport was not going to happen.  So life goes as disappointment shows its ugly head again.  Well there will be those who appear in our lives and then throw us curves, walls and barriers I do suppose.  So is life.

I suggested a radio station to a friend to listen to in the morning in case they wanted to visit this fine country of ours and become accustomed to the music world as it is different here.  I am quite sure that suggestion was not taken in earnest.  In any case that is how life sometimes unfolds.

Anyway, I was listening to this station, CBC radio2 usually with Tom Allen in the morning and sometimes Rich Stirfry in the afternoon.  Actually his name is Rich Terfy as I was hearing things again or possible hungry for Chinese food.  They have a contest running for a trip to New York to see Leonard Cohen in concert at the Radio City Music Hall on May 16th.  That would work out for me as right now it is too busy at work but by then things should ease off a bit.  I thought perhaps taking an extended leave at that time may be in the offing.  I won’t discount that now of course, and leave it up to the gods of music and good fortune.

If interested you may also enter the contest.  The station can be listened to on the internet, CBC Radio2. Just joking do not enter. ;) I want that trip. Hurry the contest ends March 22, 2009.

So going to keep this short today/tonight and let Leonard play us out with his Dance To The End of Love.  I guess we have all been there.  Well at least he has some juicy creative waves for the world and especially for the ladies. Music for the soul.  Spiritual music for sure.

Cheers,
